our Story
Peace, I’m Empress Efunsade. My work began over a decade ago behind the chair as a stylist, learning the language of textured hair through touch, repetition, and lived experience.
Over time, I expanded into education, working in Beauty schools and Holding Workshops where I further leaned into the idea of hair not only as style, but as structure, identity, and access. I saw how deeply hair care is tied to confidence, self-perception, and belonging.
Alongside this, something deeper was always present.
My sensitivity to people, energy, and emotional states showed up naturally in my work. What I once experienced quietly as intuition began to reveal itself as a form of guidance, an awareness of what was happening beneath what was being said, and beneath what was being styled.
This is where my path as a medium and practitioner of intuitive care began to weave into my professional work in the beauty industry.
Root + Honey was born from that intersection.
A place where hair care, mental and emotional awareness, and ancestral wisdom are not separate conversations but connected ones.
The work
I am a Spiritualist, Certified Somatic Practicioner, Psychohairapist, licensed Texture Specialist/esthetician, and educator working at the intersection of textured hair care, scalp health, Ritual, and embodied wellness.
My work blends technical precision with intuitive observation, supporting not just how hair is styled, but how it is maintained, understood, and experienced over time.
I pay attention to the scalp, the condition of the hair, and the subtle ways stress, lifestyle, and energy show up in the body. I guide others in returning to the wisdom of their bodies and inner spirit, supporting a deeper sense of wholeness, balance, and alignment.
My work is grounded in African healing systems and Indigenous traditions that honor the body and nature as a living archive that is intrinsically connected.
In this way, hair becomes more than aesthetic maintenance.
It becomes a site of restoration, education, and reconnection.
Care here is both physical and relational.
